The crux of the debate and problem here is something I have raised over and over again but that nobody seems to understand, believe or take seriously. That is, the obsession with virtually everyone making the weight, is wrong.
Actually, I say nobody, but after petition, the junior (non MSA equivalent)class we race in France has set the weight so that as many kids are overweight as those that carry lead and the racing is much better for it. A kid who is 30kg would carry about 8kg of lead. We have very small kids carrying significantly more than this and bigger ones 10kg or more over.
Because the issue here is not just carrying the lead, it's the time penalty of doing so. Our tests showed that on average 8Kg of lead has the same penalty in time as being 4kg over.
