Joe (Hootsman) correctly suggested that synthetic oils are reccomended however the list does include Millers KR2T, which whilst being a very good oil produced specifically for the Rotax it is not a fully synthetic oil. Silkolene Pro2 is now my choice for Snr Max. Note: not Silkolene Pro KR2! The reason for this is that the fully synthetic Pro2 yeilds, after testing slightly higher revs and the power valve does not suffer so much 'gumming up' as one of the synthetic/ester blends such as the Prokr2 and Millers KR2T. Where a power valve is not used as in Jnr Max and Minimax the blended ones are fine, indeed I do know of some front running Jnr racers that even use Shell M Caster to good effect. The caster tending to build more carbon and offer slightly more compression. Mixture rates: 100ml to 5ltrs (50 to 1) for Pro2, Pro Kr2, Millers KR2T etc will be fine, but if using the Shell M in a Jnr/Mini add 175ml per Ltr. Plugs, Denso every time IW24 if wet & cold, IW27 for normal UK conditions, IW29 if its hot and even IW31 if its Bl@@dy Boiling!!! Fuel: Normal UL, best purchaced from a high volume sales site to reduce the risk of water contamination. The only perceived diferance between UL & Super UL appears to be about 7p per ltr. The compression ratio for a Max is not high enough to benefit from a higher octane rating.
