Look at the logic....
One way or another, you HAVE to 'slip' something because you are NOT going to be able to hold the revs in their optimum power band AND have ZERO 'slip' of the clutch AND the tyres. Something MUST 'slip'!
So..... which is the cheapest and easiest to replace.... tyres or clutch.....? Need I ask....?
The 'skill' is to slip the tyres as LITTLE as you can while still remaining within the 'power band'. Again, usually, the FASTER the tyres are 'slipping' the LESS traction you get.
So..... as late as you dare, raise thew revs to the middle of your power-band, release the clutch when the lights change (simply let it CATAPULT out to FULL engage, just let your fingers slide OFF the clutch handle ) and then maintain the revs at the middle or even the BOTTOM of the max power band..... then NEVER use the clutch again until you are back into the pit lane!!!!
By the way.... if he's racing this weekend.... then he really OUGHT to have practiced this by now....... Make sure he does a few BEFORE the first race!
Oh, and tell him to prepare to select second gear within the first 1 or 2 seconds..... it'll accelerate away VERY fast!
