Used to spectate at Longridge and Heysham which inspired me to buy a a Star/250 Yam TD3 - ex Hesketh, fully tuned with reversed barrels - scariest thing I've ever experienced !!
After several changes of underwear and wanting to live a bit longer, moved to 210 National - Star, Barlotti and ZipGP chassis with Ansell and CKC engines. Used to race predominantly at Rowrah (and other Norther circuits). Yhere used to be massive gearbox grids on the old (ie. short) Rowrah circuit with virtually no contact !!. Used to have one kart in the back of a Citroen CX estate and one on the roof - awning was two golf umbrellas !! - loved every minute of it.
A few years out and back into STKM. Soon realised I was too old to start in Class1 and have run my lads ever since.
Eldest in JTKM and STKM (now retired), middle lad in Comer Cadet, JTKM and now STKM and youngest in Comer Cadet, Honda Cadet and now JTKM.
Driving standards today are appalling compared to the "good old days" and I think the sport has lost it's fun appeal. Getting rid of the plastic bumper-car bodywork and sealed engines and it might evolve back to the dad-and-lad sport it used to be - but that's not likely to happen. I hate to say it but non-MSA looks more appealing at the moment
