Quite amusing reading this but to add to the woes of some people as I used to work for a maufacturer of the FLEXIBLE hose, I thought you guys might like to know how it is made. The hose is made from two strips of pre-galvanised steel and is shaped by the use of two rolling mandrels into a locking shape. Just prior to the two strips being locked together a 'packing' is inserted into the joint dependent on the end application. For exhaust use it was an asbestos string to cope with the higher temperatures. The two strips are then forced through the final mandrel with the packing and locked together to form the flexible hose. In the flexible hose industry it was known as 'Stripwound Asbestos packed flexible exhaust hose'. This is the item that is referred to in the Talko regs. A rigid piece of extruded steel tube with machined grooves doesn't come under the wording of 'flexible'.
