"If the MSA insist on medicals, they should make arrangements for such a medical to be at a lower cost."
However, it isn't the job of the MSA to tell doctors how much to charge. Nor could they negotiate with all the independent GPs around the country. If they did arrange a special low fee it would be with a single doctor and then you'ld complain that he wasn't available when you wanted him.
"No restrictions on helmets - not no restrictions, but the ACU standard should be accepted."
There's a little bit of a problem there, because it appears that the ACU have been 'selling' stickers to manufacturers whose helmets don't pass the necessary tests.
Selecting one standard and not the other is always somewhat of a dodgy game and the MSA went to SNELL because they have the reputation and they have a standard particularly for karting.
Now you may be an expert in motor helmet design, but most people aren't. So you need to study the relevant SNELL standards and get documentation from SNELL that their KART Standard tests nothing that isn't covered by a motorcycle standard. (It may well be true, my suspicion is that as part of 'automotive sport' Kart helmets are tested to a higher degree of fire protection, which would appear unnecessary in our style of karting.) But document your findings and take it to the MSA. Don't however expect them just to take your word that you can survive just as well in a motorbike helmet, without being able to disprove SNELL.
"You go in the office, you argue your case, a decision is made and we all get on with racing."
You go in the office, the CoC makes a bad decision that affects the several other clubs in a multi-club championship and the father sues the club for damaging his child's future. The difference is that the father sues under British law, just as people sue their former school and so on.
The answers are not all black and white. In many cases people blame the 'MSA' for things that the MSA have very little control over, because largely the MSA is very hands off, but its advisers in the committees are largely all karting names well known on the circuits. From what I have heard, all sides of the arguments get put quite forcefully.
