Yeah I did rinse it straight away under hot water. Prior to putting them in the ultrasonic cleaner I left them in boiling water mixed with fairy liquid for 10 mins to soften the dirt and oil prior to the ultrasonic clean and before the soak I had already hand cleaned them thoroughly.
I tried the petrol trick but didn't have time to leave them in soak and it didn't do anything. Obviously a good 2 hour soak in petrol is needed before I can actually say whether that method works or not.
As I was racing on Sunday I had to put the engine back together and it ran fine on Sunday (not inspected the inside of the engine yet) so it doesn't seem to affect performance in any way, it just looks messy and unprofessional on the inside.
