My son was racing today in an msa race, started on pole for the final.Heading towards the start line, the lights were green. I thought driver in second place crossed the start line ahead of my son. I had a great view of this as I was standing near level and could see there was an advantage gained. This cause a few problems behind as driver 3 hesitated thinking it was going to be a restart. Appararently a parent heard over the radio/tannoy that there may have been a false/jump start. The race continued. At the end of the race I asked the stewards/ clerk of the course etc that we felt there had been a jump start, this was confirmed by them that indeed the 2nd driver had crossed the line ahead but it was only a small advantage gained and within there tolerance levels. So what I have learnt today is that the 2nd driver is allowed to cross the line ahead to gain an advantage without punishment. Very disappointed with the MSA, cant understand the ruling. The whole thing stinks and they know they have made a big mistake. Also by telling them that I will post this on UK Karting I have been accused of threatening the MSA.
