My point is, that CIK chassis have allowed for MANY options of set-up and it is my belief this is where the increased pace has come from, with a little help from the tyres, but not to the extent originally posted.
In those supposedly 'good old days', I found very little difference to be achieved with the very limited adjustments available on homologated chassis, whereas now I belive there are huge differences obtainable with the changes that can be made ...but, I would hope you have some idea of that yourself, surely you don't need me to list them all!!
Regarding the "3 - 4 tenths in new tyres", perhaps I have missed something all this time, but I personally have not found the current tyres to make that amount of difference, in some ways, I wish I had and hence my comment of ....if only it were that easy!
I do feel that whilst some will take testing more seriously than others and diligintly note changes and how that has affected etc etc, there are others that will simply put new tyres on, see an immediate positive result and therefore put it down to that one thing, ie new tyres, when in fact maybe there has been a change to the track in terms of grip levels or temperature difference or some other variance that has resulted in the perceived difference of new tyres ..I'm not saying they don't make a difference, but my point is I do not believe they make the AMOUNT of difference philharrison is talking about and the ability to make more changes and the effect of those changes are, for me the more likely reason for the lap times coming down
