We've been asked this question many times. One group will tell you there is an EXACT and ONLY ONE position for the seat...... there are others of us who say: 'are all drivers EXACTLY the same build/weight/height.....?'.
Let's work this through:-
1) You should place the seat where it gives the 'best' weight distribution: that will give you good handling.
2) I was always fat and short legged but a VERY long body. Thus in a fixed seat position, my major body weight would be far back. Other drivers are short-bodied, long-heavy-legged..... that would place THEIR body mass much further forward than mine. What about the body shape of 'world champions'..... most of those are the same weight and build as each other..... short a*sed skinny midgets! THEY all have their body mass in about the same place.
The question is..... do you REALLY think that all those drivers (Long-bodied-and-fat, Long-Legged-and-skinny...... and deformed midgets) should ALL have the seats in the same position as EACH OTHER?
If you do, then you'll want to fit your seat in some (imaginary) perfect position, exactly where the other World Champs would have their seats. But..... if you think our personal weight distribution makes a difference, then BLATANTLY, I would need my seat in a different place than a 'World Champ' or a Peter Crouch look-a-like.
So, I would, and do, argue that.... if you are the same size, shape and weight as a World Champ.... place the seat where THEY would........ if you AIN'T...... then place the seat where it gives the BEST weight distribution REGARDLESS of what the manufacturer will tell you.....
.... but what do I know.....?
I can tell you how to calculate the position for YOUR weight distribution but I can't be bothered to do it unless you feel that the seat should be placed where it works best for YOUR body! If you do.... reply and I'll post AN answer.
