Poppa....
The reason they will 'fail' is that, currently, it is rare to be using the clutch at FULL power when it's engaging..... and... there's no advantage gained in RACING by how you set the clutch..... BUT..... if you make the clutch's reactions part of the RACE (i.e., the faster the get-away, the more chance of you winning).... then some teams will set the clutch to bite AGGRESIVELY rather than the current, rather feeble, Rotax-slipping-bit). If I am right about that, we are talking about trying to make the engine apply FULL power to the axle and thus there will be a drop in revs..... if this is adjusted badly... it's quite possible that the clutch will bite too soon (just through sheer bad luck.... because you've guessed the 'ideal' reaction speed.... but you've guessed it TOO aggressively).... and you'll STALL! The rest of the pack won't and....... back to the accidents we used to see!
How about the clutch that 'sheers' when you have applied full 'launch-grip' to it for the (let's guess) 20th time. How about those where, after the 30th time, the clutch is so worn that it launches ok.... but at half the acceleration of those around you...... guess what happens???
Once you make the launch part of the race, the pressures on a good start will be even more important and more chance of some driver/mechanics getting it wrong!
