Lasers are OK...... but they can seriously mislead you!
The 'old ways' with tape, straight-edge and eye-line is simpler, cheaper and less easy to get confused.
Don't think: 'It's a laser, it's modern it's flash..... it MUST be good!'. Far too many people do exactly that!
It simply doesn't work like that. Yes, Lasers are very effective straight edge and partial tape measure...... but that's all, they are! Yes, they can measure 'geometry angles' BUT they are only as good as the 'datum point' at the other end of the laser.... if THAT's not perfectly 'straight', then you will get confusing measurement.
I'd argue that you should carry a spare set of stubs, anyway, and you can then compare a 'suspected bent' one with an original.
