Mark 71 thanks for the comments.
Yeah leaner might be better especially as there was not indication of running too lean at top revs - popping etc. When I inspected the piston crown it didn't look dry in the middle wet towards the outside - maybe wet all over. so maybe leaner is the way to go. float height is 3mm, I tend to go for that as a standard. Float weight is heavy I think, I know float weight is correct to idle jets as I checked that. Will check the exhaust - I know the silencer is OK as I have replace the baffle and the wadding, but there might be a problem inside the expansion chamber, I'll check with my inspection camera I have (great tool - Aldi special - great for looking inside stuff). Will check out the filter it was dry but will change it for another. I did once leave bungs in the trumpets the problem was one had fell out so the engine would run but very rich, it took half a test day to find it! The exhaust is not the original Mk1 - the one with the long radius bend and the silencer standing away from the expansion chamber connected with two plates, it is the Mk2 with the expansion chamber welded direct to the silencer, i.e. the pre spring exhaust. I suppose I need to systematically go through swapping ancillaries begged and borrowed from known installations which rev to the required amount.
Cheers Paul
