You were doing the Rye House meeting.
Standing Starts are for Karting Tarts and are a big pet hate of mine. Rye's start grid is set too close for standing starts and doesn't allow any manoeuvring room if the kart in front is slow away.
Early karts were direct drive and couldn't do standing starts, so why introduce it once clutches were the norm, it's just one more hassle that's not necessary.
A pace kart would have been a better way to start the newbies because as you say, you lost so many places and you weren't alone.
Your problem may either be technique or a carb problem.
Most carbs can be made to tick over, only a few won't.
You say you have the powerband coming in early so just explain to me now, just what did you do to achieve that?
Not trying to catch you out but it could be relevant to your problem.
It could also be your clutch and there is something we can do on that front too.
