It's an odd one this, I've been running X30 since 2009 in IKR with a European engine. Was one of the first to buy a UK engine (JM and Litchfield helped me a lot to get on the grid) and was in the first race at PFi. I only recently sold all my gear.
I loved the engine, I drove a Rotax twice and couldn't stand it. The X30 felt really good and a blast to drive (until I drove a 100cc and KZ). The beginnings were humble at Kimbolton and PF, but I could tell it would take off. It had the correct ingredients.
I left after doing the 2nd year of Senior X30 in the LGM as I couldn't get around a corner either by being caught up in a massive crash or being fired, which was a shame. I have no interest in coming back to short circuit MSA racing.
X30 had everything you needed, I don't know why new parts have kept being introduced and at a shocking standard it seems, whether it be a UK thing or something IAME forced upon? The engine was absolutely rock solid in the beginning apart from the starter motors, a finicky job but one solved in a mere 5 mins if you knew what you were doing.
You've just gotta find what you enjoy doing. I've now been in F100 for near on 4 years as it suits me, I'm also competing in Superkarts as it is an absolute blast. My 1 X30 (I never felt the need for another) was off the shelf, no tuning, rebuilt by Ricard and could challenge anyone in LGM that year, I had no doubts about that. It is a shame to hear of this as Andrew Rees-Reynolds and I were probably the 2 biggest advocates for X30 and really did help get it off the ground.
it seems to have some real issues lately and I hope they can turn it around.
