I have a Venom attack and can honestly say that it's an ideal starter kart. It is extremely quick and is really easy to set up which is what you want when you are learning. The kart is predictable and is only a few tenths off the pace of the modern chassis.
The only thing that would concern me is the rules for the side pods. If it's confusing and you can't find out what the facts are for the rules then I would think it would be best to get a more up to date chassis so it saves you having to mess around with trying to weld bits onto the kart.
The only thing you need at the moment is a cheap kart that is legal to race and easy to set up, but if you have to be welding bits onto the kart and then have the sctrutineers on your back about it because they themselves are unsure of the rules, then you will be getting a bit of a headache over it.
