Sorry about the length of this post in advance. I bought a kart just before Christmas and have just about got all the bits together to get it to a track. I aim to compete in the Rotax Max 177 class as Camberley or Forest Edge in the near future but intend to take it to Matchams for a few months of open track days first. I had another rotax max a few years ago but virtually wrecked it with my lack of mechanical knowledge and am keen not to make the same mistakes. Given that the kart was a large investment I can't afford for it to break - hence i'm a bit nervous about getting it to a track (silly I know)
I'm driving a Parolin Monte Carlo chassis with what seems to be a fairly strong Rotax engine. I weigh about 90kg, am 6' tall, I'm 25. The kart has a mychron system.
I was hoping to build up a guide of initial knowledge to ensure I don't rag the thing the first time I get it out - it hasn't been driven in about 6 months but still starts fine on the button. The air filter is immaculate as is carb and brake pads.
What engine temp range is safe/normal for open practice? What's the time limit on extended operation?
What approximate tyre temps should I be running in the dry/wet?
What's a good jetting start point for April down south? (Assuming a fine day)
Any problems, noises etc I should look out for?
Can anyone give me sprocket numbers for either Camberley, FE or Matchams?
Anyone got any advice for my first track outing? I'll be with one other person for assistence.
All info greatly appreciated.
