Hi, Wondering if anyone has any additional ideas on a problem we've encountered.
For the last 2 meetings at Whilton we've been having problems where the motor seems to stop revving half way up the straight and is holding back. Nothing has been changed on the motor since it was previously working fine and has been checked over by Dave Litchfield to ensure there's nothing wrong with it.
The motor seems happier if I richen it which seems to allow the motor to rev more freely, but not properly. Running 2 and 1/8 on the low jet, Im having to richen the top end to around 1/4!! Usually I run it virtually closed!!
I have tried 3 different carbs, multiple rebuilds and multiple settings popping off between 7 and 15.
I have tried changing the fuel tank, internal pick-ups, fuel line, fuel filter, fuel, oil and still get the same issues.
Occasionally it cuts out around long corners suggesting that there is fuel surge so we've also tried running the tank completely full of fuel, which made no difference. (Its also a dual feed tank which minimises the risk of getting fuel surge).
We've tried 2 other motors which alarmingly encounter the same issues. This would suggest that its a common issue meaning its either in the fuel tank set-up or carburettors.
In 10 years of this class, I've never encountered this sort of problem. Why would I have to richen the high jet so much to get it to run and why would it be cutting out around the corners? Does anyone have any ideas that we can try as we've spent 2 test days and 2 race days trying everything we can think of.
We've also changed axle bearings, ensured everything on the axle is tight, the brakes are not binding all, engine sprocket / rear sprockets. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
