Alfano are obviously great, loads of people use them and they still have an excellent reputation. So why did I get a Mychron 4?
I do a lot of work with race cars, and so I'm reasonably familiar with the Aim software and products. Has always worked very well for budget dataloggers. Since I got the Mychron I've not yet bothered with getting a data key and downloading, but I'm very impresed at how intuitive it is to use as a lap timer and rev counter - very rare that I've needed to look in the manual. At the end of a session I can very quickly get an idea of how I'm progressing, and whether I'm hitting the max and min rpm that I'm expecting to. I also like the choice in the way that split times are displayed.
The other bonus is that when I want to get a bit more involved with data logging on the kart for testing, the Mychron stuff is very flexible in terms of expansion. For what you pay, it's a very impressive bit of kit.
