Having watched some Cadet and Junior racing this season, the kids generally seem to be alright, to nearly quote the song. And then somewhere along the line, if the agression, holier than thou attitudes, abuse and everything else shows up, it's normally after conversation with a parent.
Some of the fairest, closest, smoothest and most non-contact racing I've seen this year has been in the Cadet class. It can be good, but probably involves walking away from some idiots when it isn't.
Like you said, don't let them grind you down. They'll get their reward somewhere along the line, and probably don't have particularly happy lives anyway.

PS As a 43 year old novice some of the best advice I've received on kart setup and driving has been from cadets and juniors. They're a pretty helpful bunch too.
