I recently had my first race in Senior Blue on a borrowed kart. I'm a featherweight so knew I'd have to run with the gold restrictor but I wasn't able to get hold of one of these until the day before the race meeting so I tested a week or so before without it. I limited the throttle travel, stiffened the return spring and knew that I'd have to not get too optimistic about my testing times as they'd be slightly quicker than they should've been so I was fairly pleased to be a few tenths off the pace from the previous meeting on old tyres.
When I put the restrictor on it killed us though! Without making any other changes the restrictor was costing us over 1.5s and the main problem area was that the kart just wouldn't move out of slow corners even though the top end revs weren't too far off. During the course of the day we took off three teeth on the rear sprocket, lengthed the exhaust flex to 60mm and never seemed to stop playing with the carb (one change at a time) but nothing made a significant difference.
I was told that it's difficult to find the sweet spot with the gold restrictor and we're testing again soon so I was wondering if any regular Blue drivers had had these problems initially and what they'd recommend?
