The initial reply from Tal-ko is nothing but expected. The conditions for racing have not been ideal over the last few weekends to say the least. I would imagine that this weekend at PFI was not a very suitable test. I read elsewhere on this site that some sort of treatment was applied to the track. I remember PFI doing a similar thing back in 1999/2000. The track was greasy as hades, worse than wet. Not a good surface to race on. On getting home the chassis and especially the brake was corroded badly. If we where at PFI this weekend we would have likely not raced because of this treatment. Weather this coming weekend is not much better, 'tis February after all. Will not be buying a new set of tyres for Clay. There have been changes in the TKM maxxis over the last year/18 months. The original tyres would last for ever with little or no drop off in performance bar the 1st run. Last season the tyres appear to have worn far faster. It was not unusual to wear the 'dimples' out if doing extensive testing. Lap times would stablise a few tenths slower than new. Unfortunately in Super 1 it is not possible to do a 3 lap break in as the first time on your tyres was 10 minutes frantic (for some) qualifying. The same would apply to a set of new test tyres during an S1 weekend. It could be this that has led to the different wear pattern of last seasons tyres. Roll on the spring and more suitable temperatures.
