"Greenpaper", yes I remember it and I was one of only 15 people nationwide who contributed to it. 15!! There's apathy for you.
There is interest out there to get into karting, be it Cadets, TKM, ProKart, whatever, but there has to be somebody on the inside willing to introduce those people to the sport.
Some years back, MBKC (Simon Goodfellow at the time) asked for suggestions from members as to how to encourage new people in to the sport, I put forward an idea to give free entry for each driver who introduced a newcomer/novice to MBKC for each of the novice driver's entries. Once the novice was off novice plates, the introducer then pays full entry fees - unless he introduces another novice and so gets more free entries.
Ultimately it will be word of mouth from drivers who encourage others to come and watch and then want to have a go that will get numbers back up but there has to be a mechanism put in place by the clubs to give good unbiased information to those potential newcomers and some way to reward those who do the introducing.
