Am becoming a Minimax father! Have kart but not yet run it on a circuit ref. the following (please note have some trials/motocross experience so not totally "green"):- Apparently this kart had not run for a couple of years. Seller demonstrated by starting and seemed OK (although quite smoky) but not able to "test drive". I have stripped carb, cleaned and blown through, re-assembled with new needle (K27, clip in top position), fresh fuel(50:1), new fuel lines and fitted filter between tank and pump, and new throttle cable. Also changed oil in "counter balance" case,SAE 30. Have not been able to charge battery but kart starts and ticks-over, but I am alarmed that idle screw makes no difference to tickover speed however adjusted, both before and after carb check. Is this normal? When revved engine "fourstrokes", producing more smoke than power and is reluctant to rev. I would think this indicates a blown seal but have read a couple of things I need to confirm before I reach this conclusion ( have heard this to be an easy-fix but can find no info?). Have read that a poor battery can give these symptoms. Is this true, I would have thought battery purely drove starter motor and had no input to ignition, or perhaps I am wrong? Have also read these engines should not be run with kart on trolley. Does this mean I am not getting a true picture of this engines "health"? I know this is a bit of a diatribe but would welcome your opinions regarding next course of action. Thanks for your time. PS Engine is sealed. Denso Iridium IW24 plug.
