Really?? Where do I need to start with this? I admire bike racing hugely but you cannot possibly hold that up as an example. You are right - they don't hit each other. But, like I said, when something bad happens it is really bad. You don't need wraprounds, cages etc. I realise that. I'm not in the slightest bit over-protective and my son is not the "little Jonny" you dismissively describe the kids as. He has broken bones and had some huge accidents.
The truth is somewhere in between. Keep the safety measures we have, space out the starts and punish contact as per the rules.
That's not difficult either is it? And certainly a lot more sensible than making something potentially less safe to ... er make it safer.
