PFI today, my 12 yr old son racing around in a Junior Blue so I thought I would have a go. We have fitted a fat boy seat in another kart and bolted on a Iame Lynx Maxi engine as used in Senior Blue.
I did 10 laps and it all came flooding back, smooth engine upto 16000 rpm, the G loading, the cornering, the speed and the assault on the senses, the pain (although a lot of this is age related.) I raced Junior National in the early 80s.
I managed 5 laps, my mouth was dry on lap 2. Then back out for another 5.
I am 30 kilos over the weight limit, nearly 50 and lets say portlyish. But the thing was just amazing.
Hows these lads and lasses race these things and compete is just amazing talent really. All of them.
The Senior Blues have people older than 60 racing (Legend Class I think) I think SimonS is one of them. Not sure I can make it to tomorrow never mind 60. How the endurance boys manage to do hours at a time I don't know.
Great experience and would recommend just having a go so that you can understand better what the kids are actually managing to do.
