I was in the same position as you 'Mikott20' when i started 3 seasons ago this october, i had been doing hire kart stuff and moved onto pro karts.
Lard ass is spot on regarding older chassis, i bought an older 7kart when i started and have still got it, its an 2002 which was old when i got it but even older now but i do quite well with it, bagged clubmans championship in my first year plus a got 3rd last year in pros and am running 3rd this year at PF.
So dont be affriad of getting something older providing its a good one, but if you have the budget go for a recent model, but there is someone i know selling a 2002 7kart and hes quite clued into 7karts as hes raced them for years.
