With all the changes in costs etc to S1 and people dropping out , I decided to look at the cost difference between S1 and F6. We did a few seasons in F6 and loved it, but made the move to S1 , 2 years ago in Juniors.
The problem for us is the distance to the F6 circuits, which puts the cost up for travel and expenses. Below is a typical budget for a season , based on actual costs last year. It does exclude damage and any race team fees , as I based it on Dad , driver and van. Typical damage costs last season were around 1,000.00 which was mainly axles and track rods etc.
Entry fees and registration for S1 Series is 850.00 (based on 120.00 per round) Friday practice sessions at each circuit is 270.00 Tyres race day and practice 1,719.36 Race Fuel 168.00 Practice fuel 90.00 Typical race consumables i.e. chain , carb rubber throttle cable etc 222.00 Travel to circuits depends on were you are , but typical cost for us is 602.80 based on estimated milage at 0.22 per mile Hotels (Thur Fri Sat ) Travelodge typical 720.00
Total for S1 series (Excluding any race team fees and damage) =4,609.16
Entry fees and registration for F6 is 690.00 Friday practice sessions at each circuit is 270.00 based on 6 sessions Tyres race day and practice 1,002.96 (less tyres needed as no control tyres) Race Fuel 0.00 No control fuel required Practice and race fuel 216.00 Typical race consumables i.e. chain , carb rubber throttle cable etc 333.00 Travel to circuits depends on were you are , but typical cost for us is 1,320.00 based on estimated milage at 0.22 per mile Hotels ( Fri ) Travelodge typical 720.00
Total for F6 (Excluding any race team fees and damage) =4,662.96
So for us the costs are virtually the same , and was cheaper in S1 before the price hike.
We are still going with S1 for 2010 , but it was an interesting exercise doing the cost comparison .
Travel and accommodation is one of the biggest costs, this can be reduced considerably by sleeping at the circuits , and helps if you live down South for F6.
