no offence taken Adam... I agree, there is always a place for scrutineering checks that involve stripping engines.
The non invasive methods I have created are simply checks that highlight issues. Ask how long it takes to check an engine for basic checks of ignition timing, stroke, cam mapping, side case orientation and then you start to see how a 35 min non invasive set of checks with no rebuild costs matches up to conventional checks for the same issues.
To try and answer your questions: # emulsion tubes are easily removed and do not need any other method of checking than visual with go and no go gauges. The advantage of then using a usb microscope to check for surface finish is just an extension of any visual check.
# dowels-yes, I can check to within a tenth of a degree for sidecase orientation/dowel irregularities.
Obviously I don't want to share all the technical details of my kit but I will try and help if anyone wants to know more.
The concept of not stripping all engines is indeed radical and the feedback from owner drivers I have talked to is that they are pleased to be found legal and can enjoy the race results knowing they have earned it. The fact that they do not have a bill for a rebuild is a nice bonus (the nice being the acronym for'Non Invasive Checks Engineered')
Yes I would like to see non invasive checks spread, yes I realise it is new and needs further understanding... yes, I realise it is not for everyone. Live and let live is my motto.
