Kerbs are technically outwith the boundary of the circuit. We should therefore no be touching them. Bigger kerbs would mean we would stay off them and the areas beyond them which would punish mistakes rather than making the escape route faster. The new concrete rumble strip at the bus stop is a case in point. If the kerb on the exit was massive there would be no shortening of the circuit through the chicane. meanwhile carrying too much speed in there would result in mounting a kerb that would beach the kart and lose drive or at the very least compromise the exit.
What we have to remember also is that the circuit is a hire kart track first and foremost and Ian will always have in mind damage to his hire fleet. Accordingly it has to be a balance, however, with wrap round bumbers there is less damage caused when hitting the tyre bails that we now have removed.
