Race Tuned engines from RPM (other engine tuners are available) in and around 5.2 mean, Selected Parts in and around 5.5. But there are other figures to consider such as torque which i feel is more important, a nice steady curve is what your looking for. I've known guys testing with engines, a pair of 5.3hp and a pair of 5.6hp and the 5.3hp being quicker.
On a dyno you can take the time its takes for an engine to go from tickover (2000rpm) to 6000rpm which is very useful. On the dyno we use a good engine will do it in 8 seconds or under but of course every dyno is different.
Sp engines will generally give you 2 to 3 tenths a lap over standard race engines but of course thats only if you can drive consistantly achieving lap times within a tenth of each other.
Are they worth 1000 (others going for 2000 and above), its supply and demand, if somebody is willing to pay it then thats what they are worth.
