Suppose you have 20 karts on the grid.
The race ends - there is "interest" in the fastest qualifier, fastest race lap, winner and runner up and an unlucky but fast top tenner. Who buys the engines ? Does the buyer have to use them or can they stockpile them ? Suppose the rules say that they must be used. If as we suspect the buying team goes no faster , then who will buy them ? The buying team now needs to buy even more motors to get faster. It seems to me that people are supposing that there is a lot more disposable money out there than I (or the Chancellor)think there is. The series winner could possibly be paying for 16 engines at 1200 each and re-selling at 500 each. You can buy an enormous trophy for a lot less than that.
However, there is a lot more involved in winning races than just fast engines. The weather seems unseasonably dry and mild and the stopwatch thumb is beginning to itch a Happy New Year to All.
