Jim, that all seems a bit complicated! First of all, the first person to "put their money down" gets to buy the engine. I also think you are being a little bit too suspicious. It is very simple, from my practical experience of BB. A driver will appear to go quite well on a particular day, perhaps better than he has recently. A dad will think that is cause to buy the "hot" engine the driver now has. Experience has shown that, when the buyer uses that purchased engine at a following round, he goes no quicker, suggesting that, on that previous meet, the driver/dad going suspiciously quick on that occasion had probably just hit a sweet spot in set-up. I do pay particular attention to this because, obviously, if a driver went quick, had his engine purchased and then the purchaser went quicker, that would obviously draw my attention to the need for a bit of serious scrooting on my part.
