Oh and 18KGs is a massive disadvantage but so is lack of experience in driving, set up and race management. The teams you were racing have, in the main, been involved in the sport for years and are still learning. There is no substitute for seat time and proper testing (which can be incredibly dull) but you will be amazed how much you can gain from listening to the correct people and focusing on just one corner or complex at a time. If you perfect it the additional speed you will carry will probably screw up the next corner but you then learn to link them together.
I know 3 sisters has limited testing but a good number of the teams also race at Teesside in their club endurance which has proven to be equally as successful, competitive and enjoyable. Driving different circuits will also add to your learning experience and will make you a better team and drivers.
If you get to the stage where foam or no foam is the difference you will be beating Lucas!
Good luck
Graeme
