reading this thread makes me realise a lot of you still do not understand: # the areas where the engine preppers 'tune' the big engines # the total difference between the T1 and T2, # the whole point of altering the ignition timing with the manufacturing of a stepped key and the levelling principles of any new regs.
Not one poster has questioned Kelvin's statement that 'stepped keys cannot be used but altering the width is ok'.
Prokarting needs a fiche or a set of standard sizes and measurements to stand a chance of levelling the playing field.
Why has a set of sizes not been produced? -no it's not the cost, although it would take an independent a fair while to produce, no, the actual reason is that a set of sizes (or fiche) would allow joe bloggs to have the same engine/chance as the next guy and that would not be good business for the 'tuners'.
Making just one part, the ignition timing, standard across the board will not level the playing field while: # valve timing is still a much overlooked area of engine prep # the initial torque honing , that is essential to correct a standard engine's ovality when hot is still not in the rules as a bore measurement # length of stroke is not actively policed # volume of cyl head is not inclusive of ports
-I could go on....
