We have been using 0/30 racing oil.(not sure on name, will have to have a look when next in garage). We went out with 500ml but when we stripped crank case off after we only drained 300ml. No signs of a leak and no smoke from burning oil visible so not quite sure why that's dropped so much. Looking like this was the cause though.
The engines were going really well during the race then one suddenly stalled. On looking at it it has sheared into lots of very small pieces and there was only about 3" stub left on the bottom of the piston, the rest was mashed up into chunks and filings.
Same engine did it about two months ago and we still don't know the reason why that time. The crank wasn't damaged last time but is scored and rough this time so will probably need a new one. Cam, cam followers and valve train all look ok but will have a more detailed look during the week.
