Some other thoughts.
Don't expect to get the kart set-up right for Xmas, particularly with an absent driver.
Don't expect to be on the pace the first time he drives. Even if he has indoor-experience he is likely to look horribly slow compared to experienced drivers while thinking it is exceptionally fast.
It is easy to feel disappointed, while saying "it doesn't matter" to the driver. They get the disappointment much more than they hear the words. It will take 6 months of regular driving to start getting it...and the step from slow to on pace may be quite sudden.
If the seat has been worn out previously , take a look at it carefully. Remember that the kart will bend when the driver gets into it, so setting it to the maximum below the rails without a driver isn't recommended.
With a 30kg driver you will probably be adding ballast, so consider whether you put the seat higher to raise the centre of gravity and save wear on it. You are looking at 103 kgs kart and driver for MSA Racing.
If you are doing your own spannering, don't feel that you need to chase performance. There isn't a magic setting / magic engine / magic accessory that will suddenly increase your speed. If you find it stressful that 'your' driver isn't doing as well as you would like, consider giving him to someone else.
Do not pit in isolation, make friends, preferably with someone with experience and pit next to them and ask questions. Novice driver / novice dad can be a toxic mix instead of a great experience.
Also, from the earliest stages karting is intensely competitive. Even among adults we see 'bad' behaviour, tantrums and excuses. Expect to manage them.
Do not expect your driver to be able to give you coherent answers to questions, especially about handling. You need to know how it should feel before you can answer what the kart is doing. People have waved spanners near the kart, without actually touching it, and had their drivers report that those changes have fixed the problem. Equally the driver may oppose every change one proposes, but insist that they are an improvement (and nothing else needs to be changed) after the test.
But mostly remember, karting is fun. If you aren't having fun, then you are doing it wrong!
