I was exactly where you are now a year ago!Oh how time flies!!! As Knighty says you only need the new exhaust if you are Racing MSA. You'll need to do an ARKS test before he can race. We started Karting last year with an old Mari kart with a WTP 2 stroke engine, which we used to get loads of track time. We decided the Honda Cadet class was the best class to run as the IAME class at Rowrah is small with only 5 or 6 karts racing. last Xmas we bought a 2012 PJ1 with what we thought was a good engine, it was good enough to practice and do his ARKS but not really good enough to race, although it is a great wet weather engine! Get plenty of practice as time in the seat is really important. Then if you decide karting is for you.....You'll need a van for the kart, and awning a trailer, a caravan, lazers, the list goes on and on.........Hope you're rich! Karting is great for Dad and Son bonding, also Big arguments and getting away from the rest of the world for the weekends! In our first year at Karting we came 6th at Rowrah and 4th at Wigan 3 sisters, we even managed to win our fist ever race at Hooton park back in Sept! Watch out, there are quite a few shady people out there who just want your money.....also some really nice people who will help you, so long as you don't start beating their kids out on the track.....
Good luck !! And Enjoy it.....if you don't enjoy Karting its NOT for you!
