Graeme , my confusion was around the term OEM (original equipment manufacturer) as the name suggests, it is a part that is manufactured by the company who supplies the that part to the engine builder. Therefore, my question was: would it not comply with the regs definition of standard part i.e. original manufacturing process or machining marks on it?
I have had it confirmed that these parts are mostly copies from china, therefore aftermarket parts rather than OEM in the strictest automotive sense. So obviously cannot be used as would not meet the regs so I won't be buying (though from what I have heard if not running to the regs are good parts especially for the price!) As for testing, (I actually meant practice) but the reason is cost, the same reason teams have practice engines and race engines. It is expensive to run two or more sets of high level engines.
Thanks for the input Mike
