Yet more points gifted to Felipe! That brings the tally to 7. This time to the expense of a Torro Rosso! I was not supprised that they moved Bourdais out of the way, totally unjust however. What was Bourdais suppost to do? Swerve onto the grass because it was a red car?! If Lewis had finished 9th then they would have left things as they stood. Torro Rosso are hardly going to appeal - A) They have no chance whatsoever of winning it, B) STR use Ferrari powered engines! We all know the outcome if the car had been any other colour.
The 'inconsistancy' that got me was Massa's pass on Webber - passing not only off the track (outside the white lines), but in the pit lane!!! He cut across the red (ironic colour) divider between the pits and the race track, what would have happened if a car had been exiting the pits? An absolutly catostrophic accident! I can compare the move to Lewis vs Kimi at Spa - Passing off the race track to gain an advantage - advantage being if he'd run out of race track, he'd have had to hit the brakes and gone to the outside of Webber (which I cant understand why he didnt in the first place, did you see the state of Webbers tyres?). Point being, overtaking off track, and I think most will agree that taking an escape road is one hell of alot safer than taking to the pit lane.
As for the penalties...
Lewis' If you actually look at the replay, Hamilton was on the inside of Kimi, pretty much went straight on at turn 1, very silly manouver but in no way impeaded Kimi - it was the presence of Kovalinen following Lewis through that made Kimi run wide!
Massa... You can tell he has been listening to Schumacher's advice - remenicence of Adelaide 1994 and Jerez 1997 on Hill and Villeneuve, accept Massa went one better and didnt damage his own car! Looking at the replays, that was a deliberate attempt to take Lewis out of the running!
Again, point being - why equal penalties when one was a silly manouvre and supposedly lost a Ferrari a couple of places (when it was another car that made the Ferrari run wide), and the second resulted in one car pointing in the wrong direction? Lewis lost out far more than Kimi, again my instincts tell me that it was felt that Massa had to have a penalty for punting Lewis off, therefore why not give Lewis one too for good measure!
On the whole I loved the race, there was action, there was squabbling, Kubica vs Kimi was awesome to watch and am I impressed with Fernando or what! Starting to agree with the few that feel if he'd been in a Mclaren this year, he'd have wrapped up the title by now - well... depending on how much the FIA 'intervined' to his cause! Excelent drive, drove the socks off a Renault when it mattered and actually had to overtake (albeit in the pits) the car infront to win it!
Never the less, new title contender - if Mclaren and Ferrari continue their squabble and trip over each other again, first Polish Champion anyone?? Got to be worth a couple of quid at the bookies!
