But Tmoon..... that was one HELL of a car! The only way they could beat it was to BAN it! That is THE example of the 'unfair advantage' in motor sport!
For those who don't know what it did, it had an additional pair of JLO engines (old karters will know what THEY were) driving fans. The car ran with skirts reaching down to the ground. When they ran the fans, they produced a SEVERE down force on the car. This gave them the downforce of a modern F1 car BUT with NO additional drag being produced by HUGE and complex wings!
Jim Chapperal was America's version of Colin Chapman..... a total GENIUS......
However, ask Surtees how well the got on together.........!!!
Gordon Murray's 'Fan car' was a mere copy of the 2J (except it used the main engine to drive a single fan).
