I suspect your question was rhetorical.
Those 'oldies' amongst us know how careful we were when 'ramming' each other and that curbed many of our silly ways...... well, it did for me!
It always meant that you had to hit the UPright of the rear bumper with the centre of yours. If not..... you went under their rear bumper and got your toes trapped or you hit their rear wheel and spun out.
It did not prevent us from doing it BUT...... it reduced the willingness to use it except as a VERY last resort...... it simply wasn't worth the risk to try too often ...... even for certain drivers (cough ... hines ....cough.... davis ...cough... mailer.... cough ..... dagless....etc...).
That really HAS changed now. For the worse!
