Here�s one for you deep thinkers

I am in the middle of coding a multi language version of my software, translating it into German, French and Italian.

Almost every word or phrase I translate is at least twice as long in terms of the numbers of letters in each word, now putting to one side for the moment that it�s a nightmare to code and keep the format the same or even similar, how is it that these nations are not half as efficient as us English?

Given the impact of the length of each word, then that�s twice as much typing, twice as much reading and twice as much talking all to communicate the same thing that we using English can do in half the time.

Why is it that we appear not to benefit from this inherent advantage?
