Thanks Alan....... it's not QUITE that easy....

The Mac could SEE the Access point and allowed me to try to 'connect' to it.... but then refused becasue it said it needed the 'password'. As there IS no password, that proved SLIGHTLY tricky.....

Nothing on this PLANET would persuade it to connect as it KEPT asking for a password no matter WHAT I selected.

Be honest, old chap... surely you know I would have TRIED the simple solutions before listing this problem yet AGAIN????!

For precision, the first time I saw the problem was on a client's Mac Book 1 year ago (I mentioned it then). It would NOT work on the client's Netgear router so I brought the MacBook home and it DID work on an identical access point(my own) which ALSO had no password. The assumption HAD to be that it was the Access point at the client's house.... I bought them a new one, replaced it and....... it S*T*I*L*L wouldn't work..... except for a few SECOND'S worth of connection after about 50 attempts..... it would then connect...... and LOSE the connection saying.... 'I need a password...'

Again, I thought I must just be UNLUCKY with with THIS Macs..... until I met the LATEST one which is doing EXACTLY THE SAME AGAIN!

It has now gone back to Italy and the client has dealt with the problem in a VERY simple (and satisfying, for me!) way..... she simply refuses to guarantee that ANY Mac will work in her conference facility..... of course, she CONTINUES to guarantee Miscrosift conntectability.... supplied throughg me..... and even I can get Macs to talk to the access point..... if they are booted into a PROPER operating system of Windows......

Thanks for offereing your help, though.

If you can think of some other cure, I'd still like to know.....

A little less Mac-works-with-anything-smugness and a little less 'Macs-are-intuitive' wouldn't go amiss, either! Even Microsoft have problems occasionally.... why would we think that a TOY company wouldn't have problems, too!
