"Vic : " A specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects " That's the definition of religion and its precisely what the man made climate change body subscribe to. Religious believers will point you to all sorts of evidence, scientific and otherwise, to support their theories. What many of them share is a prophesy that something WILL HAPPEN in the future unless WE do something about it NOW. Many of them also ridicule those who will not subscribe to their beliefs."
You have actually contained the counter to your argument in your posting....the word belief.
I (like anyone of a scientific mind) don't BELIEVE that man made GW will happen...its simply the balance of probabilty, give the evidence presented. Thats the big difference between ANY religious philosophy, and a scientific theory. There are hundreds, even thousands of people in the scientific community who have studied the climate enough to understand it, and their consensus is that Humanity IS exacerbating the problem. Yes, there are a number (though considerably less) of equally knowledgable scientists who think that there is NO problem. This is not unusual; its how science works. There is usually evidence to support more than one theory, but over time, the evidence accumulates in favour of one, and reduces for the others. Which is precisely what is happening in this situation.
As for ridiculing those who don't support the 'belief', that is not the way to go about things...to ridicule someones methods of obtaining their 'evidence' , or the 'fellows' that they call up is a different matter, if those be seen to be biased, incompetent, or simply downright liars.
