HC64... when you were young? Your reply sounds pretty childish to me! Was it all that long ago?
Are you serious? Pedestrians stay off the road or you will get killed? When it is perfectly ok for people to cross it to get to the other side? C'mon! If you REALLY have that attitude - YOU should NOT be on the road! You SHOULD have learned the REASON drivers HAVE to be aware of pedestrians WELL in advance of passing your test!
The REASON drivers have to keep an eye out for pedestrians and NOT the other way around is that IF a pedestrian walked (or ran) into another person, car, lamp post, tree... you name it they are unlikely to do anywhere NEAR the amount of damage even a slow moving car would cause!
When I drive down the road I dont see many people standing in the middle of it, infact its quite infrequent that I even have to take any form of evasive action! However I DO expect EVERYONE to walk out infront of me, just like I expect EVERYONE to pull out infront of me at a junction - it rarely occurs, but boy am I thankfull that I anticipated it BEFORE it happened, not AFTER I have had an accident!
You ARE right that pedestrians should be more aware, but its the vehicle that is the faster moving object, and subseqently the object that is going to do the most damage if a collision occurs!
On a second note, SPEED *DOES* KILL! The HIGHER the speed, the LARGER the suddern stop! The larger the suddern stop the higher the forces applied to your head as you eat your steering wheel for dinner.
If I hit you over the head with a pillow, and then a sledge hammer - which one would hurt more?
The sledge hammer is simulating the suddern stop from a much HIGHER speed!
Maybe its needed to 'hammer' some sense into you!
