Teams have been spending $100-$200 million going round in circles and F1 has been getting more and more boring with ALL overtaking now done in the pits. Is that what we want. IMO NO WAY.
Bernie and Max are just realists. The big manufacturers (the main cause of the hugh spending increase) are all now in serious financial trouble. The economic statistics are the worst on record. The countrys debt is forecast to increase from 40% of GDP to 100% in the next five years with the budget deficit over 10% p.a. (What happened to the rule it couldn't be more that 3%).
So put simply the money isn't going to be there to spend on F1. It's a luxury even for the sponsors. When did you last buy a Red Bull because they sponsor two teams or buy a Panasonic TV because it's on a Toyota.
If you want to keep the cra* F1 we've had for the last 15 years please send your cheque (minimum 100,000) to your favourite F1 team who will happily waste it.
Good on Frank Williams. As they prove at Monaco every year they are the best in the business and the budget cap is going to help them the most.
