....and era before my time but the space race is the subject of some great tv on the bbc, iplayer if you missed it

2 points that hit home

the tech or lack of it, the key processors were the human brains and the way they problem solved at best and guessed the rest based on very limited knowledge

and the risks

if it was a a film you wouldnt believe it, the odds were so stacked against not just the USA but also the USSR

was it worth it, lifes were lost, huge amounts of money was wasted to gain so little but 40 years on i am surrounded by new tech but it doesnt stir the heart of that era, the risks are to high for the modern world, the faith of knowing it can be done has been replaced by the sterile risk reducer

born from war, and a race of 2 teams i still think it was one of our races greatest times and should be taught as a lesson of what we can do
