Do some careful calculations.

If 'money' was the ONLY consideration about which house we own then, in general, the answer is quite simple.... MOVE!

Why?

Because, unless yours is the 'odd' house which is actually 'missing' something (e.g., you have a HUGE garden but a house with a small lounge and only 2 bedrooms) then the AVERAGE situation is that an 'extension' will usually cost you more than selling your house and buying the identical house which has already HAD that extension work done.

The same would usually apply to loft extensions. It was always quite rare to increase the value of your house by as much as you spent on the extension.

Personally, I've always hated the modern roof trusses fo exactly the reason you have found: they waste the roof space appallingly!
