I am basing my knowledge on 'old stuff'. My mum was a property developer for a while and they had their own, in-house, architects. I am surprised when you say most new houses are not designed by architects: I thought they were, as they were in my mum's day.
Who does draw up the plans for the modern boxes if they are not architects? Are we just discussing the concept of the distinction between architects and draftsmen?
I do understand that they could simply by plans for basic houses (as they did for the pre 1900 classic terraced ranges) but surely, these MUST have been designed by an architect in the first place?
I do stand to be corrected on this one as I have been out of the property game since the start of the 1990s.
